Galata Tower has stood at the heart of Istanbul for centuries, serving different roles from a watchtower to a fire lookout point. Today, it is one of the city’s most recognizable landmarks and a must-visit for first-time visitors.
Inside, a short elevator ride followed by a final staircase leads to the observation deck, where visitors are rewarded with sweeping 360-degree views over the city.
From the top, you can see the Bosphorus, the Golden Horn and the historic peninsula with landmarks like Hagia Sophia and Topkapi Palace. The experience is especially popular around sunset, when the city is bathed in warm light.
Due to its popularity, the tower can get crowded, so visiting early in the morning or later in the evening is usually the best option.

Located in Galata, just below Beyoğlu, the tower sits in one of Istanbul’s most atmospheric neighborhoods. The surrounding streets are filled with cafés, boutiques and historic buildings, making it a great area to explore before or after your visit.
